A few days ago we echoed the sale of Pear US to a joint stock company. David Tavares himself announced the move on the official distribution site, while removing the download links from Pear US 8, The latest version of the Ubuntu based distro with Mac OS X taste.
Well, it looks like Pear US has been reborn as Clementine OS.
Clementine OS is a fork of Pear US and no, it has nothing to do with the Clementine player; the only thing both projects have in common is the name. At the official site of Clementine US the installation images of Pear US 8 are provided, although Tavares has nothing to do with the project.
The first version of Clementine OS will be based on Ubuntu 14.04; for now its manager has begun to accept suggestions for the artwork. The person in charge of the project is Brenden Gonzalez.
At the time of writing this post the official Clementine US site is offline due to excessive CPU usage. However, more information about the project can be found in his Google+ profile. Now all that remains is to wait and see how it progresses development of the distribution, A direct competition is the increasingly established and popular elementary OS.
