Daniel Fore, of the Elementary OS development team, was in charge of informing yesterday Sunday of the availability of the second beta of Elementary OS 0.4 Loki. The new version has been released to fix bugs, more than 70 in total most of which have been reported by users who tested beta 1 of this operating system. Many of the fixes are configuration changes, so those testing the first beta will need to do a clean install.
Although only a month has passed since beta 1, we have already fixed over 70 issues that testers have reported to us. Beta 1 Testers: Be sure to run updates to receive the upcoming fixes and everything listed on this page. Some of the fixes listed are configuration changes and will not be available to beta 1 testers as updates. To receive the full list of fixes, we strongly recommend doing a clean install of beta 2.
Elementary OS 0.4 Loki will be based on Ubuntu 16.04
the next version they will release will be the first Release Candidate or RC1, but it is not yet known when this version will arrive. The next version could be the RC2.
The Elementary OS developer team just launches LTS versions, So Loki will be based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus. The new version will have patch and update support until 2021 and will include many key features of Ubuntu 16.04, such as Linux Kernel 4.4.
Personally, I am saddened to see that the Elementary OS developer team takes so long to launch their systems. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean I don’t value your work, but last week it was already released Ubuntu 16.04.1, It’s been three months since Ubuntu 16.04 was released and we still have to wait a long time to use the final version of Elementery OS Loki. In fact, whenever I’ve used Elementary OS I’ve felt good and really liked its image (I think it’s my favorite), but I usually miss some features that are already available in the latest versions of Ubuntu and I end up installing any other distro.
Anyway, we already have new beta and will probably give Elementary OS a try again if unity 8 it doesn’t convince me when they release Ubuntu 16.10.
