One of the things that is missing in the process of installing Ubuntu April 12, is the option to install next to Windows, Since in this new version, we only have two options, to replace Windows and a little more.
If we are expert users, or with a little experience in Linux systems and make partitions, we will be able to install next to Windows in a very simple way, but on the contrary, if we are novice or inexperienced users in these tasks, The installation is a bit complicated.
That’s why I decided to make this guide for beginners how to install Ubuntu 12 Apr. next to our Windows.
To start we will have to go to the disk utility of ours Windows and reduce our volume to be able to perform one new partition, If you already have the partitioned hard drive you can skip this step and go to the Ubuntu 12 Apr installation directly.
Disk partitions from Windows
Once in the Windows Disk Utility, We just have to select the drive of our hard drive by placing it on it and with the right mouse button select the option to reduce the volume.
We will reduce it, removing the size we want to give the partition for Linux, once this is done, the new partition will come out as unallocated space, We will put on it again and with the right mouse button we will select the option of new simple volume, We will follow the instructions of the wizard and give it the format we want, because then from the installation of Ubuntu 12 abr we will give it the correct format.
Once this is done we can move on to the installation process of Ubuntu April 12
Installing Ubuntu 12 abr next to Windows
Once in the installer of Ubuntu April 12, we will select the option of “Something else” and we will proceed as follows:
- First we will partition the new partition created with ones 1024Mb to use it as swap partition o SWAP,
- The remaining space will be partitioned to EXT4 and with mounting point in «/»And we will check the box to format the partition.
Once these two simple steps have been completed, we can click on the following button and finish the installation process of Ubuntu April 12.
During the installation process, Ubuntu that has detected that another operating system exists, will create a boot loader from which we can select whether to log in with Windows or with Ubuntu April 12, In addition to other options not recommended for novice users.
