Cinnamon and MAT are, today, two great alternatives to consider in addition to Unity and the other flavors of Ubuntu, although there is an official taste with Ubuntu MATE. Also, a few days ago we brought you the news of the release of the new versions from both desktops.
Well, if a few days ago we told you in a news that they were already available, in this article we will teach you how to install Cinnamon and MAT on Ubuntu, Using a method that you probably already know, and that will greatly facilitate the process of having these two desktops on our computers.
Cinnamon and MAT installation
to have Cinnamon on our computer and with him one of the forks best known from GNOME 3 and that work best, we will have to resort to the method of adding a PPA to our repositories, updating the list and finally installing the package. To do this, open a terminal and execute the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-nightly sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install cinnamon
Once the process is complete, if we log out we can return to the home screen, where we can choose Cinnamon as a desktop to run our new session.
per install MAT on our computer we will have to perform a procedure similar to the previous one, with the exception that the PPA and the installation package will have to be changed. We open a terminal again and execute the following commands:
$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-mate-dev/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install mate-desktop-environment sudo apt-get install mate-desktop-environment-extras
As in the previous case, per log in to MAT we will have to go out on the login screen
With MATE the most nostalgic they will recover the most classic Ubuntu, And they will once again have on their computer an operating system that looks like what we are missing so much.
With these simple steps you no longer have an excuse for not having both desktops installed next to Unity. Tell us about your experience by leaving us a comment.
