The new version of Thunar, the 1.5.1, Was published a few days ago. This update of the file manager of XFCE includes a long list of corrected bugs and some new features, the most notorious being the inclusion of tabs, A feature that users of the application have been asking for quite some time and finally reaches their systems despite the initial reluctance of developers.
Among other features are also the inclusion of an option to delete files and directories permanently without first going through the trash, as well as cleaning the toolbar and various improvements in terms of speed when generating the thumbnails of files in folders with a large number of them.
Installation on Xubuntu 12.10
Xubuntu 12.10 users can try out the new version of Thunar by adding the official PPF for the XFCE guys. It must be borne in mind, however, that this is one version under development so it is not recommended to perform the installation in production environments.
With this in mind, the first thing is to add the corresponding PPA with the order:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.12
Then we refresh and update:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
Once the update is over we will have Thunar 1.5.1 installed on our system and ready to use. To run it we can enter the command in a terminal
And to close this post, a quote from Nick Schermer: “Sometimes Open Source is listening to users without agreeing to the change.”
