Yesterday the 30th and after several months of work, the people behind the Linux Mint Project have launched Linux Mint 17.3, Operating system named Rosa. As in previous versions, the new version comes in two versions, one with a graphical environment Cinnamon (Of which you have a screenshot above these lines) and another with environment MAT, Which is the interface used by Ubuntu until the arrival of Unity and is also available Ubuntu Mate, the latest taste to become official.
Linux Mint 17.3 is based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr, the latest version Long Time Support which has launched Canonical. The versions of its graphical environments are Cinnamon 2.8 and MAT 1.12. You could say that Cinnamon is more visually appealing than MAT but if I have to choose one, I prefer the more classic graphical environment I used in my early years with Ubuntu.
What’s New in Linux Mint 17.3 Pink
As for what’s new, and although the Linux Mint development team has not given much detail, it is known that the software sources have been improved, so they are now more reliable, fast and completely updated, the manager of updates has also been improved and from now on will check more times if there are updates available and the screen where we do login it has also undergone some modifications.
Cinnamon 2.8 came with important changes, such as better Preferences and window management, improvements in Nemo, sound, power management, workspaces and window list. In addition, overall system performance has also been improved.
In the case of the version with MAT environment, it includes a new application menu, support for Openbox, Compiz and Compton window manager. It also includes all the new features that have come along with version 1.12 of the MAT graphical environment.
Both versions use Linux Kernel 3.19 and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS packages, so they will have support for security patches and updates until 2019. They can be downloaded when the web page responds to linuxmint.comBut you have to be patient. At the time of writing, the page is unavailable.
