OpenShot on Ubuntu 12.04: How to install the latest version

Although the latest version of OpenShot can be easily installed on Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal from the Universe repository, version 12.04 follows an earlier version; the good news is that it is very easy to update the app.

The latest version of OpenShot is 1.4.3, which contains numerous improvements, bug fixes and interesting new features compared to older versions of the video editor.


per install the latest version of OpenShot on Ubuntu 12.04 we will make use of the official repository of the program hosted on Launchpad. So the first thing is to open our console and run the command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:openshot.developers/ppa

And then:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install openshot openshot-doc

The installation can also be done simply by downloading the DEB package:

wget -c

And then entering the terminal:

sudo dpkg -i openshot_1.4.3-1_all.deb
