We recently received the OTA-12, which is marked as a minor update that fixes bugs and brings aethercast to the BQ tablet but this will not be the same in the next OTA, known as OTA-13 which will be quite important for Ubuntu Phone.
That’s why the Ubuntu Touch team has announced that the launch of OTA-13 will be delayed a few days, Coming to publish next September 7th instead of September 1st. The delay is a nuisance, it is always on software development issues, but in this case the wait will be worth it.
As it has become known, the new OTA-13 will incorporate new aesthetics which involves the inclusion of a new theme, new icons and even the keyboard indicator we have on the desktop, an indicator that internally will give a lot of functionality to the operating system.
The OTA-13 will make Ubuntu phone reach more Android phones
But the most important thing is the inclusion of Android June BSP, One of the parts of the operating system that will make more Android phones compatible with the Ubuntu operating system, which is very important because in general Ubuntu Phone is characterized by having phones that were first born as Android phones. Mir and Unity 8 will be present in this version, but they will be present in a very special way MIR will be completely redesigned to move to Google’s Go language. This will possibly make Ubuntu Phone faster or at least need less hardware to run.
So it seems that the new OTA-13 will be a big change for Ubuntu Phone or so it seems. Now, until we have this version on our phones we won’t know if it will really be worth it or not or if it will really be a great operating system update What do you think?
